Irish Stew

Wanna try an irish dish? The Irish Stew is the perfect choice. It is alike the "Eintopf" a meal, which includes a variety of ingredients. Lamb or Mutton, potatoes, carrots are mostly used and boiled in water. In the ancient times, a stew was a popular cooking method, using a cauldron as the major cooking tool. I had the Irish Stew in Lincolns Inn and it is good affordable option for dinner. 

Ein typisches irisches Gericht gefällig? Dann probier das "Irish Stew". Es ist ein Eintopf-Gericht mit vielen verschiedenen Zutaten. Hauptsächlich Lamm oder Schaf, Kartoffeln, Karotten werden verwendet und in Wasser gekocht. Im antiken Zeitalter war ein "Stew" eine beliebte Art zu Kochen. Dafür wurden Kessel verwendet, da es noch keine Öfen gab. Ich hatte das "Irish Stew" im Lincolns Inn.

Ha'Penny Bridge

Dublin City has a variety of bridges, which connect the north with the south side. One of the oldest ones and only open for pedestrians is the Ha'Penny Bridge. Opened 1816 and illuminated by night it demonstrates its nostalgic charme and reminds a little bit of Paris by night. Ha'Penny is the popular name, as a half penny toll was to be paid to cross in the old times.

 

Es gibt viele Brücken in Dublin, die den Norden mit dem Süden über die Liffey verbinden. Eine der ältesten und nur für Fußgänger zugänglich ist die Ha'Penny Bridge. Eröffnet in 1816 und beleuchtet bei Nacht, strahlt sie ihren nostalgischen Charme aus und hat was von Paris bei Nacht. Ha'Penny rührt vom halben Penny Wege-Zoll her, der in den alten Zeiten verrichtet werden musste.

Aran Island

The Trip to the Aran Islands, and more specific to the Inishmore, is a highlight in July. The island is famous for its Tweed, but also rich in history and gaellic culture. Only some more than 1,000 inhabitants, but at least as much were there as tourists, the Islands offer stunning Cliffs-of-Moher-Like views at the southside. But also the 3000 years-old stone fort Dún Aonghasa is worth a visit. 

Der Trip zur größten der Aran Inseln, der Inishmore, war bestimmt ein Highlight im Juli. Die Insel ist berühmt für das Tweed, aber auch reich an Geschichte und gällischer Kultur. Nur knapp über 1,000 Menschen wohnen noch auf der Insel, aber mindestens genauso viele könnten es an einem Besucherstarken Tag als Touristen sein. Die Insel bietet gewaltige Cliffs-of-Moher-ähnliche Blicke über die Klippen. Dun Aengus, das 3000 Jahre alte Stein-Fort sollte man auf keinen Fall verpassen.

Hurling

And again a visit to Croke Park! During summer the sunday afternoon is booked with matches, and it was the Hurling turn this time. It is one of the fastest ball sports in the world. 15 players try to hit and run with a small ball and seek to score more goals than their opponents. You hardly can see the ball, but the patrons are always enthralled, when the teams score by either batting the ball over the bar or directly in the goal, which even scores more.

Und wieder einmal im Croke Park! Während der Sommer Monate finden Sonntags immer Matches statt, und dieses mal stand Hurling auf dem Programm. Es ist eines der schnellsten Ballsport-Arten der Welt. 15 Spieler versuchen den Ball mit dem Hurling Schläger nach vorne zu dreschen und mehr Punkte als der Gegner zu erzielen. Man kann kaum den Ball sehen, aber die Zuschauer sind stets begeistert, wenn die Teams Punkte erzielen, entweder indem sie über den Querbalken zielen, oder direkt ins Tor, was mehr Punkte gibt.
