Dublin is YES

After the YES Vote for Gay Marriage in May, Ireland is now on the forefront of equality. Thousands were drawn to the Dublin Pride, which run across the city and displayed the rainbows all over the places. Who could have believed it years ago, when the country was ruled by arch-conservative powers?!

 

Nach dem JA zur Gleichstellung der Homo-Ehe ist Irland nun an der Speerspitze der Gleichstellungs-Bewegung. Tausende waren bei der Dublin Pride Parade dabei, und Rainbow Farben waren allerorts zu sehen. Wer konnte das noch vor Jahren glauben, als das Land von erz-konservativen Kräften bestimmt wurde?!

Cashel and Kilkenny

One of the landmarks in Tipperary and Ireland is the Rock of Cashel, which once was made seat of the bishop by the holy St. Patrick in the 5th century. But also Brian Boru (Boru who? More in the Clontarf Post to follow) called the castle his home and was crowned at this spot.
Der Rock of Cashel wurde im 5. Jahrhundert vom Paddy zum Bischofssitz erklärt und auch Brian Boru (seine Story kommt später im Clontarf Post) war hier und hat sich die Krone aufgesetzt.                             

Kilkenny was then the last station of this extended weekend trip to the SouthEast of Ireland. Hometown of Kilkenny, a mild Red Ale and a stronghold for Hurling. Apart from visiting the Castle you may find time to have a pint in a range of good pubs in the Parliament Street. 

Das milde Red Ale Kilkenny kommt von hier und abgesehen vom Kilkenny Castle kann man in den zahlreichen Pubs (z.B. in der Parliament Street) sich die Zeit vertreiben. Zudem ist K. Hochburg des Hurling. Aber dazu später mehr!

Bloomsday

It's him? Or not? Every year on the 16th of June the Bloomsday is celebrated with various events in the City. In Georges Street opposite of the James Joyce Centre I have met this fellow, and I must admit he is a carbon copy of James Joyce.

Ist er es? Oder nicht? Jedes Jahr am 16. Juni wird der Bloomsday mit verschiedenen Veranstaltungen in der Stadt gefeiert. In der Georges Street gegenüber dem James Joyce Center hab ich diesen Gesellen getroffen, und ich muss zugeben er sieht dem echten James Joyce zum Verwechseln ähnlich.

Irish "Bundesliga"

The "Bundesliga" of Irish Soccer is called Airtricity League. A rainbow was coming out, when I was for a match in Tallaght Stadium, which has more the standard of a Regionalliga Club in Germany. It is the home pitch for Shamrock Rovers, who played Sligo Rovers at this evening. Unfortunately they didn't serve Stadium Sausage and beer is totaly banned in the stadium.

Die erste irische Fussball Liga nennt sich Airtricity Liga. An einem Freitag Abend war ich im Tallaght Stadion, um mir das Heim-Match von Shamrock Rovers gegen Sligo Rovers anzuschauen. Das Stadion hat mehr was von einem Regionalliga Club, und Stadionwurst und Bier gibt es auch nicht. Zumindest hat sich ein Regenbogen über dem Stadion gezeigt.
