Smithfield

Home of a traditional horse fair, the Smithfield has a long history and is now surrounded by modern appartments. Around the corner is the Jameson Distillery and the cozy Cobblestone Pub.

Auf dem 'Smithfield' gibts zweimal im Jahr eine Pferde-Schau. Nach Restaurierungen stehen dort jetzt vor allem moderne Appartments. Um die Ecke ist die Jameson Distille und das gemütliche Cobblestone Pub.

Meist besuchte Attraktion in Irland

This renowned building is supposed to be the most visited tourist attraction in Ireland. So far I already visited it twice. Home of more than 200,000 old books and of course housing the Book of Kells. Bring time to queue up for the Trinity College Library.

Dieses bekannte Gebäude ist das wohl meist besuchte Touristenziel in Irland. Bis dahin war ich schon zweimal drin. Ca. 200,000 alte Bücher im Obergeschoss und natürlich das 'Book of Kells' sind dort beheimatet. Bring Zeit mit für's Anstehen in der 'Trinity College Bücherei'.

Sculptures

Dublin displays lots of statues and sculptures across the city. You just have to watch closely, when you are passing places or walking along the canals. I could find this man made of bronze not far away from my house: It's Brendan Behan. An irish writer and rebel!

Statuen und Skulpturen gibt es zu Haufe verteilt quer über die ganze Stadt. Du musst nur genau hinschauen, wenn du an Plätzen vorbeikommst oder an den Kanälen spazieren gehst. Ich konnte diesen Mann aus Bronze nicht weit von meinem Haus entdecken: Brendan Behan. Ein irischer Schriftsteller und Rebell!

Electric Picnic

With the support of ebay I could catch a Festival Ticket for the Electric Picnic. Tickets were quickly sold out and I was very keen on going to this famous festival in Stradbally Hall. A caravan of buses brought most of the festival goers to this little village. After setting up my tiny tent amid other thousands of tents, I explored the vast festival area and was enthralled by the variety of venues. One spot was an old shipwreck called Salty Dog, on which bands performed. And also authentic german cooking was present on the festival.

Mit freundlicher Unterstützung von ebay konnte ich noch ein Festival Ticket für das Electric Picnic ergattern. Die Tickets waren schnell weg, aber ich wollte mir unbedingt dieses berühmte Festival in Stradbally Hall anschaun. Eine Bus-Karawane brachte die meisten Festivalbesucher in dieses kleine Dorf. Nachdem ich mein winziges Zelt inmitten anderer tausend Zelte aufgebaut hatte, machte ich mich auf das Festivalgelände und war entzückt von der Angebotsvielfalt. Ein Spielort war ein altes Wrack mit dem Namen 'Salty Dog', auf dem Bands gespielt haben. Und auch echte deutsche Küche gab es vor Ort (man beachte den typisch deutschen Namen).
