Malahaide

Cycling to Malahaide Castle on a sunday morning is marvelous, if you have the perfect weather. And it was! Malahaide is set out in a big park areal and offers a fine museum and a botanical garden either. 

Mit dem Rad zum Malahaide Schloss an einem Sonntag morgen ist fabelhaft, wenn das Wetter passt. Und es passte! Das Schloss ist von einer großen Parkanlage umgeben und bietet neben einem Museum auch den Besuch eines botanischen Gartens an.

Abandoned - Verlassen

And sometimes, if you are in the countryside, you can find these abandoned houses. They are placed there like decades ago and fell into a deep sleep. Would be interesting to know, who spent the childhood there and why people need to leave the house back!

Und manchmal, wenn du dich auf dem Land aufhälst, findest du diese verlassenen Häuser. Sie wurde da vor Jahrzehnten hingepflanzt und sind in eine Art Dornrößchenschlaf gefallen. Wäre interessant zu wissen, wer seine Kindheit hier verbracht hat und warum die Leute das Haus zurück lassen mussten.

Rugby live

A friendly game between Ireland and Scotland gave me the first opportunity to visit the Aviva Stadium. And not for the last time! Although not sold out, it was awesome to watch the Rugby live. And many more games followed on the screen for the World Cup in September.

Das Freundschaftsspiel Irland vs. Schottland war mein erster Besuch im Aviva Stadion. Und nicht der Letzte! Obwohl nicht ausverkauft, war es fantastisch mal ein Rugby Spiel live mitzuerleben. Und viele weitere Spiele sollten, wenn auch nur auf dem Bildschirm, im Rahmen der Rugby Weltmeisterschaft im September folgen.

Dublin Bay

What a nice place to have an after work beer! The sunset over Dublin Bay is just one must-do on the Howth Peninsula. Got there by bike in 45mins! The beer tastes even better. Sláinte.

Ein perfekter Platz für das After Work Bier! Der Sonnenuntergang über der Dublin Bucht ist nur ein Muss auf der Howth Halbinsel. 45min. mit dem Rad! Da schmeckt das Bier noch besser. Sláinte.

The Dying Cow - oder nenn es Tallon's!

There is no such thing as age limit to be behind the tap. Also located on the Wicklow Way, the Dying Cow in Stranakelly is a fine address for a cold drink. We have been told, the trad sessions should be brilliant. We missed these ones, but anyway had a great time in this extraordinary rural pub.

Hier gibts keine Altersbeschränkung, um hinter dem Zapfhahn zu stehen. Ebenfalls am Wicklow Way gelegen, ist das 'Dying Cow' eine spitzen Adresse für ein kaltes Getränk. Was uns zu Ohren gekommen ist, sollen die TradSessions (Leute treffen sich mit ihren Musikinstrumenten im Pub und spielen unkonventionell Volkslieder ab) brilliant sein. Allerdings haben wir die verpasst, aber hatten trotzdem eine gute Zeit in diesem außergewöhnlichen ländlichen Pub.

Glendalough

On the Wickloy Way we had a stop over in the Valley of the two lakes, better known as Glendalough. The old Monastery originates from the 6th century and has a great old graveyard. Above the upper Lake goes along a hiking trail, which I tried for half a way in the early morning hours before we continued our next stage on the Wicklow Way. Unfortunately hard to get there with public transport, otherwise I would visit the Valley more often.  

Auf dem Wicklow Way hatten wir Aufenthalt im Tal der Zwei Seen, auch besser bekannt unter Glendalough. Die alte Abtei stammt aus dem 6.Jahrhundert und hat einen prima alten Friedhof. Oberhalb des oberen Sees entlang führt ein Wanderweg, den ich zur Hälfte am frühen Morgen gegangen bin bevor wir unsere nächste Etappe des Wicklow Way gestartet haben. Leider ist die Anbindung mit öffentlichen Verkehrsmitteln nicht so gut, sonst würde ich öfters mal dort vorbei schauen.

Wicklow Way

In August finally I went on a one week holiday hike and chose the WicklowWay for this adventure. It is a 132km long trail starting in Marlay Park (Dublin) and ending in Clonegal (you could also walk vice versa). Beside the beautiful landscape in the Wicklows you can enjoy the hospitality of irish B&B's. The trail is well way marked and you hardly can get lost. With only one day of rain, we were very lucky and my favorites were Glendalough, the Glenmalure Lodge and the Pub "Dying Cow" in Tinahely.

Im August habe ich endlich Zeit gefunden für eine einwöchige Wanderung auf dem Wicklow Way. Es ist ein 132km langer Wanderweg, der im Marlay Park (Dublin) startet und bis nach Clonegal führt (kann man auch andersrum laufen). Neben der hübschen Landschaf in den Wicklow Bergen, kann man die Gastfreundschaft in den irischen B&B's geniessen. Der Weg ist gut markiert und man kann sich nur schwerlich verlaufen. Wir hatten mit nur einem Regentag viel Glück, und meine Highlights waren Glendalough, die Glenmalure Lodge und das Pub "Dying Cow" in Tinahely.
